« […]Generous and passionate, Josué NICOLAS invites us, through this work, to immerse ourselves in a time whose barbarity was matched only by its magic and poetry.«
Bertrand Navin
Josué NICOLAS is a web developer and graphic designer by profession, but also an amateur illustrator and painter originally from Maisons-Alfort, living in the Paris region near the Juine Valley close to Étampes.
Passionate about drawing since childhood, he first picked up a pencil while trying to copy the video game covers and manga covers of his older brothers.
He has created illustrations for children’s books in collaboration with the author Régis Hurel BENINGA such as Voyage à Bétoko, the collection of poems Chœurs des Cœurs as well as those of the dramatized tales; « The Enchanted Islands. » Although he has always been a self-taught artist, it was at Thierry Hulné’s Clémentine art studio in Étampes, where he was a student, that he learned painting techniques, how to work with color, how to combine watercolor with pencils, and how to paint in oils. It was at this same studio that he had a revelation and a desire to share his passion with the public, leading him to participate in exhibitions. His work explores the medieval and fantasy world, through which he revisits heritage and incorporates references to popular culture, sometimes accompanied by poems and narratives. Landscapes, portraits, and animals are also among his favorite themes.
